Pom pom sheep
People from all over the world have flocked to help the pompom sheep record attempt.

There's nothing like the feel of a cosy cardigan or soft scarf made from real sheep's wool. To promote this wonderful - and stylish - natural material, the Campaign For Wool and The Wool Room have teamed up with Eden Arts and Aardman Animations, the creators of Shaun the Sheep, to attempt a Guinness World Record for the largest display of handmade pompom sheep.

Crafters from all over the world have flocked to send in contributions towards the 10,000 sheep target and these will form the Shaun the Sheep PomPom Parade at the ZSL London Zoo this weekend (Friday 30 August to Sunday 1 September, 2013) as part of the Little Creatures Family Festival.

Want to have a go at home with your child? Follow these simple steps:

1. Take ten long lengths of real sheep wool.

2. Wrap the wool around two rings made of card of your chosen size until the hole in the middle is very small.

3. Hold the wool carefully on the card while you cut the wool between the two pieces of card

4. Tie a long piece of wool tightly around the middle to secure your pompom. Then pull off the card rings carefully.

5. Cut out and colour in two sets of legs, then tie them on with some more wool.

6. Cut out and colour in a face then glue it on! Your sheep is now ready to join Shaun's flock!
