French Kids Eat Everything by Karen Le Billon (Piatkus, £12.99)

Just what is it about the French style of parenting that’s made it so en vogue of late, with this being the second book to expound the virtues of the Gallic way of raising children in just a matter of months? First, there was French Children Don’t Throw Food, by Pamela Druckerman, and now this offering that purports that they eat everything, too. Similarly to Druckerman, the author here is a north American who has upped sticks with her family to take up residence in France. From being notoriously fussy eaters, her two young daughters eventually adapt to the French way of eating and now list beetroot, spinach and olives as their favourite foods.

Page turner If fish fingers and chips are your child’s staple diet, this might well appeal.

Page turn-off Is that a bandwagon we see?

Typical phrase “French parents expect children to stay at the table and eat everything they are served uncomplainingly. Despite this, French children think eating is fun.”
