Those looking for Junior readers' favourite tales need look no further than our Top 100 children's books of all time, but how did our favourite fables fare in the eyes of today’s schoolchildren?

In anticipation of National Libraries Day, this Saturday February 9, over 300,000 British children have voted on their top 10 favourite books.

The trend for epic fantasy in early reader fiction dominates the top ten, with The Morganville Vampires, Percy Jackson And The Battle Of The Labyrinth and two Harry Potter titles all taking a coveted space.

Junior favourite Jeff Kinney also proved popular with respondents, as Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth placed sixth overall.

While esteemed children’s authors Roald Dahl and Allan Ahlberg failed to appear in the top ten schoolchildren’s choice, they both placed highly in the list of most read authors across surveyed age groups.

The most popular books of 2013, as voted for by 300,144 UK schoolchildren are:

1.   Glass Houses: The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine
2.   Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling
