Amanda Johns, founder of the Grace and Galor child model agency, is the power behind some of the youngest stars in fashion. Recent campaigns for designer label Burberry and designer website Alex and Alexa have all starred Grace and Galor’s very own models. We caught up with the busy model booker and chat childhood dreams and saving the world...
Where were you born and brought up?
Haverhill in Suffolk
Do you have brothers and sisters? If so, can you tell me a bit about them?
I have a sister who is 18 months older than me. She is most probably the more sensible one out of the two of us and is very creative.
What were your favourite pastimes as a child?
I was very lucky to own a pony, so most of my childhood was spent riding and we also used to go away camping as a family a lot.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I think the same as a lot of young girls with a pony, I wanted to be a show jumper.
Do you have any particularly funny childhood memories?
My sister and I and three of our best friends had a group called the AF (adventurous five) we used to go out and save the world!
What is your family life like?
Family life is lovely. It is myself, my partner Michael and my son Harry living in a cosy cottage in the woods.
How did you get into what you do?
I applied for a job as a booker in a London agency when I was 19 and have worked in model agencies as a booker and then as an agent ever since.
What do you do in your spare time?
If ever I have spare time I love to ski, walk the dog in the woods and build lego with my son!
Tell me four interesting facts about yourself
1. I’m very good at building lego.
2. I spent six months one summer looking after horses near Barcelona, Spain.
3. Due to my years of camping I am very quick at putting up a tent.
4. I definitely love sunsets more than sunrises as I am not a morning person!
Any unfulfilled dreams?
To own a horse again.
