Wrap up warmly, pack your binoculars and hope for blue skies and you head out onto picturesque Leith Hill in Surrey for an evening of spotting badgers in their natural habitat, accompanied by an experienced guide.  

Summer of Love Craft Fair
July 1
Creative families should pop along to Matthews Hall in Devon for this contemporary craft fair showcasing work by a selection of designers and makers from the local area. Several workshops will also be running upstairs in the Make Lounge including summer bunting making and origami flowers. 

Fifties Fete
July 1
Go retro at this fun family event in Hatchlands Park in Guildford by perusing craft stalls, learning fun historic facts from the decade and a watching a varied line-up of live music. 

Roald Dahl Festival 2012
July 7
A spectacular parade will wind through the market square in Aylesbury today featuring characters from ten of the legendary author’s best-loved stories including James And The Giant Peach, The Twits and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. After the parade, Aylesbury town centre will be awash with Dahl themed music and exciting activities for all.

Marazion Carnival
July 15
The small town of Marazion in Penzance will come alive today with live music, dancing, Punch and Judy performances, barbequed food and a parade through the town centre. 

Pirate Play Days
July 21–September 2
Young buccaneers can channel their inner Jack Sparrow at this afternoon of pirate-themed fun at Chatham Historic Dockyard where salty seafaring activities abound including cannon firing sessions, storytelling on board HMS Gannet and puppetry with Pirate Pam.

Day Out With Thomas

Children will have the chance to meet cheeky blue engine Thomas and his portly superior, Sir Topham Hatt at the Isle Of Wight Steam Railway today. Other activities available will include face painting, a treasure hunt and vintage bus rides.

Circus Wonderland

Roll up, roll up To Adur Recreation Ground in West Sussex for this spectacular new circus show featuring clowns, magic, puppets, jugglers, trapeze artists and acrobats. 

Bristol International Balloon Fiesta
August 9–12
A free festival where you and your child can marvel at the mass ascension of over 100 brightly festooned hot air balloons as well as a local food stands, live music and a sports zone in the rolling hills of Ashton Court

Wilderness Festival
August 10–12
Wilderness Festival is a celebration of the arts and outdoors in the wild meadows, lakes and trees of the ancient Wychwood Forest. Curated by the trendy creators of Lovebox and Secret Garden Party, Wildnerness brings together music, fireside banquets, debate and talks, late night parties, outdoor pursuits and theatre spectaculars alongside a selection of hearty outdoor pursuits from boating and fly fishing to nature trails and stargazing.
