The Muppets

Kermit and co are back on the big screen for their latest movie

He’s green, he’s cute and he has a habit of breaking out into song whenever the mood takes him. In the fifty plus years since he first appeared, the adorably unassuming Kermit the Frog has garnered legions of fans the world over. The devotion of one fan in particular is the springboard for this latest movie starring Jim Henson’s gang of quirky misfits. Since discovering The Muppet Show at a tender age, Walter has idolised Kermit and his crew – with his own diminutive stature, ping-pong ball eyes and curiously cloth-like skin, it's not hard to understand why...

When Walter’s brother Gary (Jason Segel) and girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) take a trip to LA to celebrate their ten-year anniversary, Walter is delighted to be invited along for the ride. He can’t wait to take a tour of the Muppet Studios, but when he arrives things aren’t quite as he imagined. The studios have fallen into a sorry state of disrepair but, what’s worse, evil villain Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) has discovered there’s oil under the site and is hatching a plan to raise the studios to the ground. What ensues is a frantic race to bring the old gang back together and save the studios, with loyal Walter giving it his all. Kermit, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal and, eventually, Miss Piggy are all sought out, along with many other colourful members of the wider Muppet family.

In true Muppet fashion, there are jokes, songs and cameo appearances by a host of notables, including Jack Black, Whoopi Goldberg, David Grohl and Selena Gomez. It all makes for an entertaining ride with an unashamedly feel-good vibe.

The Muppets, Cert U, is out in cinemas nationwide from February 10.
