Pascal Bertrand, Regional General Manager of LUX* Resorts, Mauritius, shares his passion for LUX* Resorts...

Q: What is your favourite feature of the hotel?

A: We can’t possible pick just one…LUX* Resorts take it upon themselves to surprise and delight guests throughout the holiday. It is the small things that make LUX* Resorts special, such as Teddy Tennis, a fun method of teaching kids under five to play tennis, using special composed music and teddy bear characters in motion. Or the fact that guests may come across a vintage telephone box on the grounds housing a VIP phone for guests to use for free, while a Message in a Bottle discovered at random may offer complimentary spa treatments or a romantic dinner for two on the beach.

Q: What can families rely on when visiting your resort?

A: At LUX* Resorts, children will never be told to be quiet around the pool, and parents will not be baffled by endless choices of pretentious wines and fussy cuisine. For families who want to come on holiday and escape the clutter and complication, LUX* Resorts promise a simpler, more relaxed holiday experience where unforgettable memories are created and time is the true luxury.

Q: If you were a child, which activity would you most want to do?

If it were me, I would choose Cake Boss. The one thing more satisfying to a child than a cake gleaming with icing, adorned with endless goodies such as chocolate buttons and sugar flowers, is if they made it with their own two hands! Cake Boss allows kids to get creative before indulging.

Q: What's the best way for parents to spend an afternoon/evening?

Parents can enjoy the evening alone, or with the whole family with LUX* Resorts’ Screen on the Beach. Guests can snuggle up on rugs, blankets and rugs in front of a huge screen on the beach, stretched across two palm trees. Everything from art house films to kids classics are shown, while our famous ICI ice cream is served and fresh popcorn is delivered to everyone, on the house. If it is an evening without children however, let’s hope they stumble across the Secret Bar…

Q: Is there an excursion you'd recommend above others?

A: If you choose to visit LUX* Ile de la Réunion, the Helicopter and Gourmet Experience is a must. Guests can explore off the beaten track destinations such as Le Trou de Fer, the west coast and even soar over the islands' active volcano. This excursion also includes a tempting pit stop: lunch at the acclaimed Domaine des Letchis where they can sample a divine selection of local dishes.

Q: Are there any special extras you can add on eg. private breakfasts/ champagne on arrival?

A: There are many special extras available. These include ‘les pieds dans l’eau’ (feet in the water) – a romantic meal by the sea for you and a loved one. Spa treatments are also available straight to your room or luxury villa, and some choose to dedicate a few days to the LUX* Vitality Experience, a holistic, dedicated lifestyle programme focusing on fitness, spa, diet and mind.

Q: Who has been your most exciting guest?

A: For me, the most exciting guest to date was designer Kelly Hoppen, who stayed at LUX* Belle Mare, Mauritius back in 2010. During her stay she fell in love with the hotel and its surroundings, which has since led to Kelly personally re-designing the hotel’s Villas and Suites, all to tie in with our fresh concept, ‘Lighter Brighter’.

Q: What's the most exciting event that has been held at the resort?

A: LUX* Maldives has just finished hosting the Underwater Festival for the second year running. It was an honor to host this exciting diving festival, headed up by experts including Photographer and BBC film director, Neil Lucas, Brit underwater camera man, Michael Pitts and free diving expert and four-time world record holder Sara Campbell.
In addition to this, LUX* Resorts support sporting events in the Maldives and Mauritius all your round, and we are looking forward to the likes of the Surf Ski World Series in June and the Mauritius Marathon in July.

Q: What's the strangest request you've had from a guest?

A: One day a guest of ours was relaxing in the garden, and was so comfortable that he asked us to provide him with a massage right there in the garden rather than moving to the spa. Of course we complied, and his request triggered an idea that led us to offer the same service to children, since they are not allowed into the spa. Due to that request we now offer short massages in the garden and by the pool for all LUX* kids.

Q: When is the best time to visit?

A: The Indian Ocean is great all year round, but if you have to choose, why not escape during the European winter and bask in glorious sunshine.
