Ultra-luxury ski operator Descent has hired Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall – mother of television chef Hugh and author of The Good Granny Guide – to devise the children’s meals served in their chalets even more delicious, filled with nutritious ingredients to provide energy for the following day’s skiing. Chocolate brownies are laced with hidden beetroot, and pancakes are filled with raspberry purée. The chefs also invite children into the kitchen to make drop scones and decorate their shepherd’s pie with pea smiles.

Descent’s fabulous Yellowstone chalet at Sainte Foy in the French Alps costs from £6,036 per week for a family of four, including outdoor hot tub, chauffeur-driven 4x4s, breakfast, dinner and drinks.

Verbia Bella Coola resort Snow luxury in Verbier

The ski resort of Verbier in the Swiss Alps is recognised as one of the finest off-piste destinations in the world, and now it can add world-class family facilities to its reputation. The Verbier ski schools offer skiing classes for children aged five and upwards. And for younger children and toddlers, there is also plenty to enjoy, including husky sledge rides with Swiss Mountain Spirit and toboggan rides on the nursery slopes at Les Esserts resort.

To add the final luxurious touch, stay at one of CK Verbier’s luxury chalets at Kernow, Bella Coola or Le Ti. Kernow is the largest of the three chalets, sleeping up to 14 guests. Each chalet also has a PS2, Xbox and Wii. The babysitting service, Petit Verbier, provides a central crèche and in-chalet nannying.

One week at Chalet Kernow costs from £1,875 per person.
